“Competition Is Out, Co-operation Is In…
…Is This New Strategy For Survival In 2009?…”
What Advice Now?
Accountancy firms are the first call for advice for many business owners. With recession officially declared, many will struggle to survive, let alone prosper. A shortage of credit, fewer sales and lower profit forecasts, adds a big burden to hard pressed entrepreneurs.
Accountants will have their work cut out to offer such clients more than sympathy beyond the annual audit. Worse they stand to lose a client for good if they cannot offer them desperately needed help in these troubled times. Firms with financial advisers are unlikely to fare better.
With the stock market shock decline over recent years, custom for investment products will reduce. So what assistance can the accountant give now?
A New Breakthrough
We have uncovered an interesting new angle. Accountants familiar with venture capital may not have heard of ‘venture marketing.’ We asked Christopher Doran a venture marketing consultant to explain.
“Whilst outside venture capital is used to quickly grow a business, we look at what is inside the business already that can be geared up to gain rapid growth without the need for finance.
Focus is on these three areas of particular interest - under-utilised assets, overlooked opportunities and under performing activities. When specific marketing techniques targeting these facets are installed, a business can expect to gain at least 25% in annualised sales in just 90 to 180 days, maybe much more.”
So just what are these mysterious ideas that can give a business such a boost? He says business owners miss out on big profits without realising it. They are too busy working in the business to be able to look at the bigger picture. More important they know little about marketing beyond conventional advertising. He claims the basics are often overlooked. A business must first decide exactly what makes it special. Not just in a ‘we are the best’ sense, rather how the concern is exclusive in their market.
This is something so important yet most business owners don’t do this. Isolating their ‘Exclusive Vending Proposal’ will make a significant difference he declares. Once considered and delivered as a message to the right audience, the business will have laid the foundations upon which more sales can be quickly developed.
The second thing to implement is a strategy to extract maximum value from the marketplace. This includes getting more sales value from existing and past customers, then moving to bring in new ones.
The New Paradigm
The third idea is intriguing: Alliance and partnering with other businesses and sharing profit. Most businesses are suspicious of and distanced from their competitors. Christopher says this is a mistake. Co-operation is the new buzz word. He says research shows the biggest companies regard this imperative to maintaining their competitive advantage and market position. Intriguingly very few smaller companies know anything about this strategy or how to implement it. Here is where the big profits lay hidden from view.
Knowledge of process is essential. Once understood and implemented though, profits can be almost instant and substantial. These are just the first few steps in an overall marketing makeover of twelve modules in total.
Market Domination
With all installed correctly he says market domination is achievable. So what’s this got to do with accountants? The answer lies in the advice a firm could usefully give to their business clients. Showing the client how to structure such alliances with other businesses for mutual profit, can mean survival and prosperity.
Bigger Audit Fees
Better still if the client business can successfully grow their business in the current economy, they will have need for other financial products and bigger audit fees can be levied. So every one wins.
Accountancy firms may seek to set up new marketing departments and associations themselves to capitalise on this new form of advice. Financial advisers have similar associations with firms already. There could be a new market opening up. A free report on the subject is available at:
