Business Failure

Following a recent conference on entrepreneur-ship one of the speakers put out a great quote from the great man W. Edwards Deming who put Japanese industry on the map after W.W.II.

Here it is:

“94% of business failure comes from a failure of the marketing system”

(This isn’t the word for word quote but it’s near enough there.)

Now I don’t know where he got the 94% from, but that’s not really important. What is important is the factoring of marketing in any business.

Peter Druker said much the same thing when he said that businesses are in the business of marketing (and innovation).

The key part of marketing is it’s invisible and intangible and very hard to tie down. The problem for all businesses is that the business owner(s) must do just that, and tie it down and box it up into a predetermined and installed process.

If this doesn’t happen then relatively the business falls behind and eventually dries up and dies. It doesn’t have to be this way of course. My business operates a step by step defined process that is installed deep inside the business. This makes absolutely sure of a positive result. That result is simply more sales and bigger profit.
